Meopham Walk Golden Anniversary

LAST EVENT FROM OLD TEAM - QUIZ TO HELP KENYAN HIV ORPHANS

The team which has organised annual sponsored walks and quizzes for Christian Aid in the area since 1995 is announcing its retirement at the end of 2017. We have one more event, a Quiz, after which we hope to hand over to new leaders.

The quiz is at St John’s church in Meopham on Friday 20 October, starting at 7.30pm. Teams will be competing for the Alan Foreman trophy and other prizes. All income from the quiz is pledged to a big project supporting over 170,000 children affected by HIV/AIDS in Kenya. At a result of Christian Aid’s partnership with a major US donor agency, every £1 raised will pay for £17 of work on the ground. There are 1.2 million HIV orphans in Kenya and the project will provide medicines, counselling, care and support in 18 counties across the country. In addition there are also plans to help families boost their incomes by training in horticulture, bee-keeping and new forms of farming. To book a place at the quiz, use the Contact form.

Looking back and forward
Sponsored walks linking churches in the Cobham Deanery have been taking place every year since 1995, continuing a tradition established in Meopham in 1967. The first “Quiz Aid” was in 2009. Total revenue generated from these events in the last 23 years is now approaching £130,000. The “Golden Anniversary” walk this May raised £9,190 and with further matched-giving backing from Microsoft we expect the quiz to push income for this year through the £10,000 level.
We are very grateful to everyone who has taken part in the walks and quizzes and the many helpers who have acted as walk marshals, provided refreshments or supported these events in other ways. Out of this great network we hope that new leaders will emerge, who might carry on these traditions or come up with new ways of raising money through fun events.
